24-hour senior care at home in Switzerland

24-hour care: a caregiver who lives with you

What is 24-hour care at home?

With 24-hour care at home, a caregiver moves into the household of the person receiving care and supports their daily life around the clock. They live on site, know the household’s routines and are there whenever something is needed – by day and by night. This is known as the live-in model. If you’d rather organise care yourself, you’ll find the pros and cons weighed up under private senior care.

The key difference from hourly support: there are no gaps between visits. And the key difference from a care home: the familiar home, your own rhythm and long-standing surroundings all remain. At seniorencare24, this is available either five or seven days a week, anywhere in Switzerland. Continuous care seven days a week is our standard – and in urgent cases, care can start the same day.

Cared for around the clock –
in a way that fits your life

When daily life, care needs and family circumstances change, you need a solution that adapts. Our flexible 24-hour care offers exactly that: a caregiver who lives with you and supports you safely in everyday life – arranged so that you can respond to change. No long-term commitment, but maximum reliability.

Care or nursing – what’s the difference?

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different services. Care means support in everyday life: housework, meals, shopping, companionship, activities and attentiveness around the clock. That is exactly what the caregiver who lives with you provides.

Medical nursing – such as wound care, administering medication or injections – belongs in the hands of qualified nursing staff and is the responsibility of Spitex, the Swiss home nursing service. seniorencare24 is a member of Spitex Schweiz, the national Spitex association, and coordinates with your local Spitex organisation. For you, this has a practical advantage: your health insurer’s contribution to nursing care remains in place, while everyday care is covered around the clock.

We bring our strengths to bear where conventional Spitex services reach their limits: continuous support in the live-in model. You can find out more about how the costs are split under our prices.

What services are included?

The caregiver takes on the tasks that keep everyday life at home running:

  • Support and assistance throughout the day

  • Running the household, preparing meals and doing the shopping

  • Companionship, conversation, activities and outings together

  • Attentiveness and security around the clock in a shared household

  • Working with the family and with the local Spitex on nursing care

On top of this come seniorencare24’s services behind the scenes: personal selection of your caregiver including a video call, organisation of the contract, travel and briefing, a replacement guarantee if your caregiver is unavailable or not the right fit, and an emergency hotline that is available around the clock.

The flexible model – your benefits at a glance

  • Cancel monthly – with a minimum term of 1 month
  • Individual notice period of 1 month
  • Choice of 5 or 7 days of care a week, with 24-hour support each day
  • Personal choice of caregiver (e.g. language, experience)
  • Replacement guarantee if your caregiver is unavailable or not the right fit
  • Advice and coordination on financial support (supplementary benefits, helplessness allowance, supplementary insurance)
  • 24-hour emergency hotline & personal support

Who is this model suitable for?

  • Older people with high care or support needs
  • Families who want lasting relief – but also want to stay flexible
  • As a follow-on solution after a stay in hospital or rehab
  • As a long-term alternative to a care home
  • Couples where one partner needs support

  • No long-term contractual commitment

How do the costs compare with a care home?

A place in a Swiss care home costs on average CHF 8’000 to 12’000 per month, or around CHF 332 per day. Residents pay roughly two thirds of this themselves, around CHF 6’900 per month. The exact amount depends on the canton, the home and the care level. (Sources: Federal Statistical Office and Curaviva fact sheet on care funding.)

24-hour care at home starts at CHF 5’080 per month for five days of care and at CHF 7’530 per month for seven days – with personal one-to-one support in familiar surroundings. For couples in particular, a care home often costs the same or more, because two places have to be paid for.

You’ll find the full comparison under care home costs and under home care compared with a care home. For an overview of the options besides a care home, see alternatives to a care home.

Frequently asked questions about 24-hour care

Prices are the same throughout Switzerland. Care starts at CHF 5’080 per month for five days of care a week and at CHF 7’530 per month for seven days. This includes organisation, the care assignment, hotline, administration and personal advice. To get to know us, there is also a 13-day trial from CHF 3’700.

Care covers support in everyday life: housework, meals, shopping, companionship and attentiveness around the clock. Medical nursing, such as wound care or administering medication, is the responsibility of Spitex. seniorencare24 coordinates with the local Spitex organisation so that the two work hand in hand.

Yes. In the live-in model, the caregiver lives in the household of the person receiving care for the duration of the assignment. This requires a separate room for the caregiver. It is precisely this that makes continuous support possible, including at night.

Yes. The trial covers 13 days of 24-hour care from CHF 3’700. After that, care can continue without a break.

Yes, in urgent cases care can start the same day – for example after a fall, when someone suddenly needs care, or when the person currently providing care is unexpectedly unavailable. Call our 24-hour hotline and we’ll check availability straight away.

For this situation there is a replacement guarantee. It applies if your caregiver is unavailable, and also if you are not happy with the person assigned. In addition, the emergency hotline is available around the clock.

Yes. We suggest suitable profiles, for example based on language and experience, and you have a say. A video call before the start is included.

Financial support is possible, for example through the helplessness allowance, supplementary benefits or supplementary insurance. Whether you are eligible, and for how much, depends on your personal situation. We look into cost coverage together with you and help with the application. Your health insurer’s contribution to nursing care remains in place, because nursing is coordinated with Spitex.

The minimum term is one month, and the notice period is also one month. This means care can be adjusted month by month if your situation changes.

In many situations, yes. It allows people to stay in their own home instead of moving into an institution. Where medical nursing is the main need, Spitex is brought in as well. If even that is not enough, a place in a care home may be the right solution.
