24-hour senior care at home in Switzerland

Assisted living in Switzerland

Types, services and costs – and the alternative in your own home.

Member of:

Assisted living combines a self-contained flat with services that can be added as required. Residents live independently in a flat designed for older people, usually step-free, and can make use of care and support services when they need them. It is aimed at people who would like more security but do not yet need extensive nursing care.

What services are included?

The range varies considerably from provider to provider. Typical elements are:

  • A step-free flat designed for older people (to rent or to buy)

  • An emergency call system

  • Meal, cleaning and laundry services on request

  • Care and advice on call, plus shared activities

Nursing care is not usually included automatically – if needed, it is arranged separately through Spitex (home nursing service).

How much does assisted living cost?

The costs usually consist of two parts: the rent (or housing costs) and a flat-rate service or care fee for the basic services. Additional services are charged individually. The amount depends heavily on the region, the provider and the range of services – so it is not possible to give a reliable standard price.

For comparison: 24-hour care at home from seniorencare24 is all-inclusive and starts at CHF 5’080 per month (5 days a week) or CHF 7’530 per month (7 days a week) – with no move and with personal one-to-one care.

When is care at home the better choice?

Assisted living works well as long as only occasional support is needed. But as soon as continuous companionship, supervision or round-the-clock care is required, it reaches its limits – and that is when 24-hour care makes a safe life in your own home possible, without moving.

The costs consist of rent plus a flat-rate service or care fee and vary considerably by region, provider and range of services. It is not possible to give a reliable standard figure – you will need an individual quote.

In assisted living, support is available on call; with 24-hour care, a caregiver lives with the person and is there all the time. With care at home, you also stay in your familiar home, without moving.

Yes. Instead of moving, you stay in your own home and receive personal care around the clock. Prices are all-inclusive and start at CHF 5’080 per month (5 days a week) or CHF 7’530 per month (7 days a week).
