How much does a care home cost in the canton of Zurich?

In the canton of Zurich, a day in a care home cost an average of CHF 408 in 2024, more than the Swiss average of CHF 351. Over a month, that comes to around CHF 12'400. The figure covers all of the care homes’ costs for nursing, accommodation and care, divided by the number of days of residence.

Residents do not pay the full amount: the health insurer and the canton or municipality contribute to the cost of nursing care. Residents pay for accommodation, meals and care themselves, plus a limited share of the nursing costs, with the help of supplementary benefits if their means are limited. These organisations are independent of seniorencare24. They help with questions about ageing, dementia and paying for care and nursing.

In the canton of Zurich, supplementary benefits are also called “Zusatzleistungen”. Depending on where you live, you apply either to your municipality or to SVA Zürich; the search on the canton’s website shows which office is responsible for you. Since 1 January 2025, these benefits have covered more of the costs of help and care at home: the canton has extended the list of services covered and raised the hourly rates.
